GILDING / BRONZING
A grand place becomes grander when gilding has been used.
Gilding loose leaf 24k gives the most effective, lasting finish and
is very low maintenance. It looks splendid on moulding, plaques, ceiling roses and is fabulous on Victorian iron work. Silver, Dutch
metal and bronze are used to effect as well. Bronzing and metallic powder also give a fine effect on suitable artefacts.
DECORATIVE PAINT EFFECTS
Craquelure simulates crazing that appears on painted wood due to temperature change. Popular in 18th Century France where it was
invented. Is mostly used on furniture but also looks effective on panels, screens and shutters.
Aging/Antiquing to create an aged feel on new work on walls and furniture. Also creates an effective but subtle effect on mouldings.
Clouding gives a lovely floaty effect at the same time as giving the room an aged/rustic feel.
STONE / STONE BLOCKING
This faux effect can be produced in a flat or textured finish. It is
an ideal way to give that theatrical feel, giving the appearance
of grandeur.
MARBLING
Simulating marble dates back to the Roman times. Many 18th Century artists recreated this effect. Most marble can be recreated
and looks very effective on skirting, pillars, panels and cast iron
Victorian baths.
GRAINING
To create a wood effect where the real thing can not be used. Popularised in the 17th Century where cheaper wood was used and painted.
The artist would paint an oak or walnut effect. Ideal on doors, skirting and wardrobes. Most woods can be recreated.
